Virginia Tech recruiting: In-state athlete Takye Heath commits to Hokies – The Athletic

Virginia Tech got its eighth commitment in the 2023 class when Highland Springs athlete Takye Heath said he’ll play for the Hokies.

Heath is a wide receiver, cornerback and return man for the Springers. The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder had 22 catches for 414 yards, more than 200 return yards and 10 total touchdowns last fall. He also had 25 tackles, earning first-team all-region honors on both sides of the ball.

He also had offers from Boston College, Duke, Louisville, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia and West Virginia.

Heath is the latest Virginia Tech commitment from Highland Springs, where former Hokies cornerback Loren Johnson is the head coach. Former Springers defensive lineman Rashaud Pernell signed with Tech in the 2022 class.

A three-star prospect ranked No. 877 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite, Heath is ranked as the No. 21 player in Virginia. He’s the fourth in-state prospect in the Hokies’ class, joining athlete Marcell Baylor, offensive lineman Hannes Hammer and edge rusher Jason Abbey.
