Tallahassee’s Innovation Park will soon be the site of a large laboratory to develop new products and businesses. Many of Tallahassee’s public and private sector leaders were on hand for the June 21st groundbreaking for the North Florida Innovation Lab. Lab Director Bill Lickson said, in the past, the closest facility for that kind of work was in Alachua County, 150 miles away.
“Technologies coming out of both universities will now have a home to grow up right here in North Florida. So it’s an exciting celebration today.”
And that isn’t just Florida State and Florida A&M. Tallahassee Community College’s Kimberly Moore said her school’s students and others will benefit as well.
“To help entrepreneurs start a business, existing businesses grow a business, and for all technology businesses to expand their businesses in their backyard.”
When completed, the lab will be able to handle up to 100 entrepreneurs at a time. And Lab Director Lickson said construction won’t take long.
“We should complete by first quarter 2024.”
Projected economic impact of the project is around $20 million and some 600 jobs.
